Former Nigerian presidential candidate Professor Kingsley Moghalu has refuted media reports that mistakenly identified him as the Labour Party’s candidate in the recently concluded Anambra State governorship election. In a statement released on Tuesday, Moghalu expressed disappointment over the “false and lazy reporting” that appeared in several newspapers and online platforms, some of which even used his photograph.
Moghalu clarified that the reports were erroneous, apparently confusing him with Chief George Moghalu, the actual Labour Party candidate. He emphasized that he is not a member of any political party and did not participate in the November 8, 2025, Anambra governorship election. The former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria also reiterated that he withdrew from partisan politics in September 2022, before the 2023 presidential election, after having been the Young Progressives Party’s presidential candidate in 2019.
He called on the media outlets that published the incorrect reports to issue prompt corrections and retractions. The incident underscores the importance of accurate reporting, especially in the context of significant political events such as the Anambra State governorship election, where misinformation can have serious consequences. Moghalu’s denial serves as a reminder of the need for fact‑checking and verification in journalism, and his statement highlights his commitment to transparency and accuracy in order to prevent public confusion. As the media continues to shape public discourse, responsible and precise reporting remains essential to maintaining its integrity and curbing the spread of misinformation.
