PDP Intensifies Preparations for 2025 National Convention

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is gearing up for its 2025 National Elective Convention, scheduled to take place on November 15 and 16 at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, Oyo State. This event, tagged #Ibadan2025, marks a significant milestone in the party’s journey toward internal renewal and preparation for the 2027 general elections.

According to the party, over 3,000 delegates from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory are expected to attend, alongside party leaders, stakeholders, and international observers, including members of the diplomatic community. The convention will feature the election of key national officers, including a new National Chairman, and reaffirm the PDP’s commitment to unity, discipline, and democratic principles.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, who is hosting the event, has been overseeing preparations, including venue inspections and logistical reviews, to ensure a successful outing. The Lekan Salami Stadium is being transformed into a hub for democratic renewal, with final touches being made to seating arrangements, stage design, lighting, and audio-visual systems.

The Oyo State Deputy Governor, Barr. Bayo Lawal, who chairs the Venue Sub-Committee of the National Convention Organising Committee, is supervising the preparations. With just days to go, work is intensifying at the stadium to ensure a smooth and successful convention.

The PDP’s 2025 National Elective Convention is a crucial event in the party’s calendar, as it seeks to reposition itself for the 2027 general elections. The party has been working to strengthen its internal structures and processes, and this convention is seen as a key step in that process.

The event is expected to attract significant attention from political stakeholders and observers, both locally and internationally.
