The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed a press conference held by Senator Gbenga Daniel’s media team as “a sham,” accusing the senator of spreading false information about his suspension from the party. The APC says the individuals presented as party leaders in Ogun East are unknown to the party and are actually coordinators for Daniel’s Gateway Foundation. Consequently, the list of people portrayed as APC leaders in the area is fake, with not a single ward chairman or local government chairman included.
The party also disputes Daniel’s claim about his ward, noting that records from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) show he is from Ward 04 in Sagamu Local Government. According to the APC, Daniel’s suspension resulted from confirmed anti‑party activities, including working against the party and colluding with the opposition. The party alleges that he ignored several summons and refused to defend himself before party organs, despite being given ample opportunity to do so.
The APC maintains that due process was followed in suspending Daniel. Reports from his ward and local government were submitted and endorsed by the respective chairmen and secretaries, and his own ward found him culpable for working against the party. The party views the matter as an internal issue and accuses Daniel’s camp of attempting to politicise it for the 2027 elections. It points out that the same State Working Committee (SWC) attacked by Daniel’s supporters had earlier approved his candidacy without any complaints from him.
The window for appeal has already closed, the APC says, and the party has reaffirmed its decision on Daniel’s suspension unless it is reversed through proper internal channels. It has also questioned Daniel’s commitment to the party since he became a senator, asking when he last attended a ward meeting or provided feedback to his party constituency. The response highlights an ongoing internal conflict within the APC and raises questions about Daniel’s future in the party, with significant implications for his political career and the party’s internal dynamics as the situation unfolds toward the 2027 elections.
