The Nigerian House of Representatives Committee on University Education has called on the government and private stakeholders to increase funding for specialized universities as a means of boosting the country’s economy. The appeal followed an oversight visit to universities in the South‑South region. Committee chairman Rep. Abubakar Fulata highlighted the need for improved infrastructure and facilities at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPR) in Effurun, Delta State, arguing that the institution should rank among the nation’s top universities given the pivotal role of the oil and gas sector in Nigeria’s economy.
