Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has distanced himself from the decision to expel Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The party’s national convention, currently underway in Ibadan, Oyo State, voted unanimously to expel Wike, former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu and eight others for alleged anti‑party activities. The motion, moved by PDP chieftain Bode George, cited the individuals’ actions as inconsistent with the party’s collective interest.
The convention, attended by delegates from 17 states, aims to address internal conflicts and promote unity within the PDP. Governor Fintiri said he does not support the expulsions, believing they are not in the best interest of the party. He emphasized the need for peace and reconciliation, urging stakeholders to work toward healing the party’s divisions and reaffirmed his commitment to efforts that promote stability and progress within the PDP.
The expulsion decision carries significant implications for the party’s stability and cohesion. The PDP has been grappling with internal conflicts, and this move may further exacerbate tensions. As the party navigates this challenging period, it remains to be seen how the expulsions will affect its future prospects. The national convention is a critical moment for the PDP, seeking to address internal issues and present a united front. Governor Fintiri’s stance highlights ongoing debates and divisions within the party, underscoring the need for constructive dialogue, reconciliation, and a balance between discipline and unity.
