The National Chairman of the Civilian Joint Task Force, Prof. Kailani Muhammad, said that, with Federal Government support, his organization can eliminate banditry in Nigeria within a year. He made the statement at a ceremony where Charles Omini, Special Envoy/Ambassador to West Africa for the International Human Rights Protection Service/Forum, presented him with a Certificate of Partnership as Chairman of the West African JTF.
Muhammad emphasized that the government must provide the Civilian JTF with the necessary equipment and advanced technology to confront security challenges. He noted that the group has already identified bandit locations and routes but lacks the resources to act effectively. Consequently, he urged President Bola Tinubu to set a one‑year timeline for security chiefs to eradicate insecurity in collaboration with the CJTF, warning that officials who fail to meet the goal should resign.
Omini, who presented the certificate, called for a systematic and strategic collaboration among security agencies to combat insecurity. He stressed that security is everyone’s business and requires a peaceful, safe environment. According to Omini, agencies must adopt advanced technology and a strategic, systemic approach to address security challenges.
The CJTF chairman highlighted the porosity of Nigeria’s borders, which have over 2,000 inlets and exits, and suggested installing CCTV cameras—similar to practices in Mexico and the United States—to monitor and track bandits. He also underscored the importance of artificial intelligence in the fight against insecurity.
The call for collaboration and a technology‑driven approach comes as Nigeria continues to grapple with banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism. Stakeholders—including security agencies, community leaders, and international partners—are being urged to adopt a more proactive and strategic response. With adequate support and resources, the Civilian JTF believes it can play a significant role in restoring peace and security to Nigeria.
