No more impunity, suppression of Nigerians’ will – PDP National Chairman, Turaki

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has ushered in a new era of leadership with the election of Dr. Kabiru Turaki as its National Chairman. In his acceptance speech at the 2025 elective National Convention in Ibadan, Turaki vowed to end impunity and the suppression of members’ will. He emphasized that the trust placed in the new party executives would be respected and that they would work diligently to fulfill their responsibilities.

Turaki’s victory was decisive, receiving 1,516 votes, far outpacing his closest rival, Garuba Lado, who secured only 41 votes. The new chairman assured party members that their voices would be heard and valued, stating, “There will be no more impunity and suppression of the will of the Nigerian people, and we shall open our ears wide to listen to you to determine what you want, and what you want is what we shall give you.”

The PDP is currently at a critical juncture, but Turaki expressed confidence that the new executives are equipped to tackle the challenges ahead. He pledged to promote fairness, equity, and justice within the party, acknowledging the need to reconcile with aggrieved members. To this end, the executives plan a series of visits to appeal to those with genuine grievances and encourage them to return to the party fold. This effort is seen as crucial for strengthening the party’s position and contributing to the preservation of Nigeria’s democratic system.

Turaki’s leadership marks a significant shift in the party’s trajectory as it seeks to reestablish itself as a viable force in Nigerian politics. With a renewed focus on member engagement and internal reform, the PDP aims to regain the trust of its constituents and play a meaningful role in shaping the country’s future. As the party moves forward under Turaki’s guidance, its ability to deliver on promises and address members’ concerns will be closely watched by Nigerians and the international community alike.
