Nigerian entertainer Uche Ibeto has publicly rebuked Abuja lawyer Victor Giwa, urging him to concentrate on his ongoing trial rather than attempting to sway public opinion through media statements. Giwa recently appeared in a video claiming he was being persecuted by the FCT Judiciary and the Nigeria Police Force. Ibeto dismissed these allegations as “cheap propaganda” designed to evade justice.
Ibeto has been closely monitoring the criminal cases against Giwa and his associate, Cecil Ezem Osakwe, who face charges of forgery, unlawful eviction, impersonation and malicious damage in a matter involving Asabe Waziri. She expressed solidarity with Waziri, praised the prosecution’s efforts, and thanked the Inspector General of Police and the AIG Legal for their work, urging them to attend to her own petitions submitted in August.
The dispute centers on Ibeto’s late mother’s one‑storey building in Surulere, which Ibeto alleges was fraudulently sold to Osakwe following a judgment delivered in 2025. She contends that the ruling was obtained through impersonation, forged documents and improper service, and that she was never joined as a party to the suit. In August she was forcibly evicted from the property, and her belongings were stolen or destroyed. Ibeto has listed several grounds for deeming the judgment improper, including undated sale documents and filings prepared by a single legal team for both sides.
She has petitioned the Lagos State Government, the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the Inspector General of Police to ensure that her petitions and the related prosecutions proceed without obstruction. Ibeto appealed to the public not to be swayed by Giwa’s “campaign of calumny” and urged him to face his trial in a court of law, emphasizing that justice must prevail not only for her but for others making similar allegations.
Since the eviction, Ibeto has been living in temporary accommodation, and her health has deteriorated. She expressed gratitude to her fans, the Nigerian Police and the media for their support. Her family has denied any allegations of conspiracy or wrongdoing. The case has drawn significant attention, highlighting the need for transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s judicial system, especially in property disputes involving accusations of forgery and impersonation. As the trial continues, it remains to be seen how the court will address Ibeto’s concerns and ensure that justice is served.
