The Adamawa state government has initiated efforts to mobilize border communities in preparation for the planned Nigeria-Cameroon boundary demarcation exercise scheduled for next year. Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta has assured that the process will be conducted peacefully and transparently.
According to Farauta, residents in the affected communities have already been sensitized and are prepared to cooperate with officials from both countries. She emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and order throughout the process, stating that the communities understand the importance of the exercise and are willing to cooperate with the joint teams.
The National Boundary Commission (NBC) Director-General, Surveyor Adamu Adaji, recently visited the deputy governor’s office in Yola to brief the state on the next steps of the exercise. Adaji disclosed that the NBC has concluded its mapping activities and will begin physical demarcation next year. He emphasized the need to engage state authorities and communities to ensure a smooth process.
The visit aimed to ensure that stakeholders are adequately informed and prepared for the exercise. As the Chairperson of the forum of States Boundary Committees for Nigeria-Cameroon frontline states, Farauta highlighted the significance of regional collaboration in border management. The frontline states, which include Adamawa, Borno, Taraba, Benue, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom, will play a crucial role in enhancing security and fostering peaceful coexistence along the international border.
