School Shooting Leaves Two Dead In South Africa

A deadly shooting incident occurred at Inxiweni Primary School in Tembisa, South Africa, resulting in the fatalities of a school principal and an administrative staff member. The incident happened late on Tuesday afternoon, shortly after 5pm, while staff were preparing for a meeting.

The victims, a 58-year-old principal and a 55-year-old administrator, were found lying in the corridor of the school’s administration block by colleagues who had taken cover after hearing several gunshots. Emergency teams arrived promptly but were unable to save the two women, who were declared dead at the scene.

The Gauteng Department of Education has confirmed the details of the incident, stating that the attack occurred while staff members were engaged in preparatory activities for an upcoming meeting. Police have initiated a murder investigation, although no arrests have been made as of Wednesday.

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi and Education MEC Matome Chiloane visited the school to meet with officials and the families of the victims. The education department has deployed counselling teams and wellness personnel to provide support to teachers and learners affected by the incident.
