Nasiru El‑Rufa’i, the former governor of Kaduna State, said Nigerians are ready to unite and challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in upcoming elections. He made the remark while unveiling the African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Contact and Mobilisation Office in Plateau State. El‑Rufa’i noted that many Nigerians have become disillusioned with the current state of governance and are seeking alternative options. He claimed the ADC is gaining popularity as a credible alternative to both the APC and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and expressed confidence that the party will emerge victorious, stating, “230 million Nigerians will defeat 25 governors who have defected to the APC.”
According to El‑Rufa’i, the ADC’s growth stems from its commitment to restoring integrity and ethical leadership in Nigeria. He criticized the APC as a party of “tyranny, theft, and divisiveness,” while the ADC aims to field credible candidates with sound policies that can restore confidence in governance and reposition the country.
Jamilu Lawandi‑Datti, the Plateau State Coordinator of the ADC Contact and Mobilisation Office, emphasized the need for unity and shared responsibility in tackling challenges facing young Nigerians, such as unemployment, insecurity, and poor education. He described the office’s official opening as a significant step toward bridging the disconnect between governance and the people.
During the event, more than 800 defectors from the APC and PDP were formally received into the ADC by State Chairman Hannatu Gagara. She assured the new members of equal rights and privileges within the party. The large turnout of supporters has raised optimism among party members that the ADC could become a strong political force in future elections.
The ADC’s expansion is viewed as a notable development in Nigeria’s political landscape, especially as the country approaches upcoming elections. As the party continues to gain momentum, its focus on restoring integrity and promoting ethical leadership positions it as a viable alternative to the dominant parties in Nigeria.
