APC cannot win 2027 elections without Kwankwaso - Kano NNPP chairman

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State has asserted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) lacks the political clout to win the 2027 elections without the influence of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Hashimu Sulaiman Dungurawa, chairman of the NNPP in Kano, said the APC has lost direction and focus at both state and national levels, prompting it to seek Kwankwaso’s support. Speaking at a press briefing at the NNPP state headquarters, Dungurawa emphasized that the APC’s weakness and confusion stem from its awareness that it cannot win without Kwankwaso. He clarified, however, that Kwankwaso’s recent meetings with various political figures were coincidental and not related to any alliance discussions.

Regarding the NNPP’s performance in the 2023 election, Dungurawa explained the party’s relatively low vote count in Kano by noting that it was still in its infancy, with the logo not clearly printed on the ballot and low voter awareness. Despite these challenges, the party secured seats in several states, including Kano, Jigawa, Taraba, and Bauchi. He expressed optimism that a redesigned logo and greater acceptance will produce a different outcome in 2027.

Dungurawa also discussed the party’s internal strength, noting that most executives are expected to retain their positions under the party’s constitution, which allows for two terms unless an executive defects, passes away, or faces disciplinary action. He announced that by‑elections will be held next month to replace three deceased councillors in Garin, Dala, and Doguwa Local Government Areas.

The NNPP chairman praised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s 2026 budget, highlighting its unprecedented focus on education and agriculture, and commended the visible infrastructural transformation across the state. In contrast, he criticized former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s administration for neglecting education, scholarships, and pension payments.

Addressing recent defections, Dungurawa downplayed their impact, stating that only one federal lawmaker voluntarily left the party while others were suspended before their exit. He emphasized that the NNPP does not need individuals with difficult characters. Finally, he urged NNPP members to remain united and prepare for a stronger, more strategic party ahead of the 2027 elections.
