Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has ordered the immediate closure of boarding facilities in all public and private secondary schools, citing the rising insecurity across Nigeria. The directive, issued through Commissioner for Education Dr. Augustina Godwin, aims to safeguard students from potential threats, particularly abduction. Dr. Godwin noted that a recent surge in attacks nationwide has left boarding students especially vulnerable, referencing recent incidents in Kebbi and Niger states.
To mitigate this risk, Governor Kefas instructed all secondary schools to operate as day schools until further notice. Principals and school owners have been told to dismantle boarding arrangements without delay and to increase vigilance on their premises. The state government reassured parents of its commitment to restoring safety and emphasized its close collaboration with security agencies to protect students.
The decision comes amid a broader wave of insecurity in Nigeria, including kidnappings and attacks on educational institutions. By eliminating boarding, the Taraba State government seeks to minimize risks and provide a secure environment for learning. Authorities will continue to monitor developments, adjust strategies as needed, and focus on restoring normalcy for students and residents.
