Arsenal releases Nigerian forward Nefeye Osaze

Arsenal have informed 16-year-old Nigerian forward Nefeye Osaze that he is free to seek a new club, as the Premier League side will not be offering him a new deal for the 2026-2027 season. This decision is consistent with the typical timeline for English clubs to evaluate their academy players and determine their futures ahead of the upcoming campaign.

According to Premier League regulations, players in their U17 year must begin the 2026-2027 season on a scholarship agreement, which will eventually make them eligible to sign their first professional contract on or after their 17th birthday. Osaze, who has been part of Arsenal’s Hale End Academy, helped the team win the Premier League U13 National Cup.

Arsenal’s decision regarding Osaze was reported by respected youth team expert Jeorge Bird, who stated that the club has notified the teenager that he will not be receiving a new deal. Meanwhile, other young players, such as Emerson Nwaneri and Mishel Nduka, may be offered scholarship deals at the north London club.

This development is part of the natural process of talent evaluation and development in English football, where clubs continually assess their young players to determine their potential and suitability for professional contracts. As a result, Osaze will now have the opportunity to explore other options and potentially secure a new deal with a different club.

The decision by Arsenal to release Osaze from his contract also highlights the competitive nature of football development in England, where young players must continually demonstrate their skills and dedication to secure a place in top-tier teams. With the 2026-2027 season approaching, Osaze and other young players in similar situations will be looking to make the most of their opportunities and take the next step in their football careers.
