Trump’s envoy issues ultimatum to Ukraine – FT — RT World News

The United States has given Ukraine an ultimatum to sign a peace deal by Thursday, according to a report by the Financial Times. The plan, aimed at resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, was discussed by U.S. Secretary of the Army Daniel Driscoll with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and later presented to EU and UK ambassadors in Kyiv. During the meeting, Driscoll used strong language to emphasize the urgency of the situation, stating, “we need to get this done” and that President Trump wants peace now. A high‑ranking official described the tone of the gathering as “nauseating.”

Driscoll also noted that the U.S. military assessment is that Ukraine is in a very bad position, but that security guarantees for the country are part of the U.S. plan. The proposed peace plan, which has not been officially disclosed, is believed to include the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from parts of the Donbas region, a downsizing of the military, and the abandonment of NATO aspirations in exchange for Western security guarantees.

The proposal comes amid a corruption scandal in Kyiv that has weakened Zelensky’s political standing. The Ukrainian president has warned that the country must prepare for a tough choice: accept the “28 difficult points” in the U.S. plan or face a harsh winter without U.S. support. Russian President Vladimir Putin has said the American proposal could form the basis of a final peace settlement.

The U.S. push for Ukraine to agree to the plan has met resistance from EU and UK officials, who argue for more pressure on Russia rather than rushing into a peace deal. The situation highlights the complex and sensitive nature of the conflict, with multiple parties and divergent interests at stake. As the deadline approaches, the international community is watching closely to see how events will unfold.
