Kano APC Warns Minister Over 'Uncomplimentary' Remarks • Channels Television

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has warned Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development Yusuf Ata over recent public comments concerning internal party matters and political aspirants. In a letter signed by APC Kano State Chairman Abdullahi Abbas, the party expressed concern that Ata’s remarks—made to the media—could sow division within the party. The letter noted that the issues he addressed fall strictly within the purview of the APC leadership and its designated spokespersons, and that Ata had not been authorized to speak publicly on them. Consequently, his statements might be misinterpreted as official party positions.

While acknowledging Ata’s freedom to support any aspirant of his choice, the APC leadership reminded him that, as a member of the Federal Executive Council, he is expected to promote unity among party members. The party emphasized that Ata’s public pronouncements have been uncomplimentary and derogatory, and warned him to refrain from such behavior to avoid further disciplinary action.

The warning letter was copied to several top figures in the ruling party and the federal government, including President Bola Tinubu, the APC National Chairman, and former Kano governor Abdullahi Ganduje. Ata has not yet responded publicly to the warning.

This development highlights the internal dynamics within the APC, particularly in Kano State, where the party is preparing for upcoming elections. The caution to Ata underscores the party’s effort to maintain unity and discipline among its members, especially those holding public office. As the APC navigates its internal processes, the incident serves as a reminder of the need for restraint in public commentary on sensitive party matters. By notifying national leadership and key stakeholders, the party aims to prevent further escalation or divisions and to ensure that members in leadership positions adhere to established guidelines and procedures.
