Governor Dapo Abiodun visits Awolowo family to mourn Segun

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun recently paid a condolence visit to the Awolowo family after the death of Segun Awolowo Jr., the first grandson of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo. Accompanied by members of the state’s executive council, the governor was received by the widow, their children and other relatives, including the deceased’s elderly mother, Hajia Abba Folawiyo.

Governor Abiodun described the loss as both a personal and national tragedy, noting the somber atmosphere at the Awolowo residence. He praised Segun Awolowo Jr. as a “fine gentleman” who was intelligent, warm and respectful, and acknowledged the void left by his passing, saying the news was received with heavy hearts.

Segun Awolowo Jr., a former Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, died on Thursday at the age of 62. The governor extended his condolences to the widow, children and the wider Awolowo family, praying for the repose of his soul and divine comfort for those he left behind.

The visit was a gesture of respect and solidarity with the Awolowo family during this difficult time. As a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, Segun Awolowo Jr.’s death has sent shockwaves across the country; his legacy and contributions to national development will be remembered and cherished.

The Awolowo family has long been a pillar of Nigerian politics and public service, with the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo playing a significant role in the nation’s history as former Premier of the Western Region. Their loss is therefore both a personal and national tragedy, leaving a gap in the country’s political and social landscape.

As the nation mourns Segun Awolowo Jr., Governor Abiodun’s condolence visit underscores the importance of showing respect and solidarity in times of grief, echoing the sentiments of many Nigerians who are mourning the loss of a respected and accomplished individual.
