Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has disclosed his reasons for intending to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking at a cultural event in Adamawa State, Kefas said his planned defection is driven by his commitment to promoting the interests of his people.
The event, titled “Civic Reception: Unveiling of Margi National Attire,” was organized by the Margi tribe to promote their culture and inaugurate a national attire. It was attended by three governors from the Peoples Democratic Party and other dignitaries. Kefas emphasized that the gathering was not a political meeting but a cultural celebration where all Margi nations come together to reflect on their past, present, and future.
Kefas had previously announced the postponement of his ceremonial defection to the APC, which was initially scheduled for November 19, 2025, due to the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State. At the gathering, he reiterated that his decision to join the APC is in the best interest of the people of Taraba State.
He also acknowledged his relationship with Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, describing him as a unifying factor and a true Margi son. Kefas expressed hope that Governor Fintiri will eventually understand his decision, which he believes serves his constituents.
The governor’s planned defection has garnered significant attention and is likely to have implications for the political landscape of Taraba State. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how Kefas’s move will impact his relationship with his former party and his constituents.
