The Adamawa State Police command in Nigeria has heightened security measures to protect students and educational institutions from potential attacks and abductions. This move is in response to the recent spate of school attacks and kidnappings in various parts of the country.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CP Suleiman Nguroje, the intensified security operations are being carried out through the revamped School Protection Squad (SPS). The renewed focus on school security is in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff.
To achieve this, the Commissioner of Police, CP Dakombo Morris, has been engaging with key stakeholders, including school representatives, to develop a comprehensive security strategy. This includes conducting assessment tours of schools and police facilities to identify vulnerabilities and areas for improvement. The commissioner has also emphasized the importance of maintaining standard operational procedures and professionalism among deployed personnel.
In addition to these measures, CP Morris has directed all tactical teams, divisional police officers, and area commanders to intensify patrols and conduct regular supervisory visits. This proactive approach is designed to sustain vigilance, strengthen coordination, and facilitate the early detection of emerging security concerns.
The decision to bolster school security comes on the heels of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s directive to suspend boarding services in schools. By assessing and improving the existing security architecture, the police command aims to create a safer environment for students and staff. The measures implemented by the Adamawa State Police command are part of a broader effort to address the growing concern of school attacks and kidnappings in Nigeria, and to provide a secure learning environment for students.
