A recent attack by unidentified gunmen on the Isapa community in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State resulted in the kidnapping of a pregnant woman, ten children, two nursing mothers and several other individuals. Eyewitnesses said that an estimated 20 to 30 armed bandits stormed the community, accompanied by a large herd of cattle, firing sporadically and causing panic among residents. The assault left an elderly woman injured after being struck by a stray bullet.

A community leader confirmed that 11 people were abducted, including seven members of the same family. The victims have been identified as Talatu Kabiru, Magaji, Kande, Hadiza, Mariam, Saima, Habibat, Fatima Yusufu, Sarah Sunday, Lami Fidelis and Haja Na Allah. The attackers escaped through bush paths connecting Eruku to neighboring communities, leaving residents in a state of fear and uncertainty.

The incident comes barely two weeks after a similar attack on the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), where 38 members were kidnapped and some reportedly lost their lives. Reports indicate that all 38 abducted victims from the church incident have since been rescued. These recurring incidents of banditry and kidnapping in the region have raised concerns about the safety and security of residents.

The attack on the Isapa community is a disturbing reminder of the ongoing security challenges faced by communities in the area. Authorities are expected to take measures to ensure the safe release of the abducted individuals and to prevent such incidents in the future. The use of force and violence by armed groups has become a persistent issue in some parts of Nigeria, with communities often bearing the brunt of these attacks.

The recent incidents in Kwara State highlight the need for an increased security presence and effective measures to address the root causes of these attacks. As the situation develops, it is essential to prioritize the safety and well‑being of the affected communities and to work toward a lasting solution to the security challenges in the region.
