The Nigeria Customs Service Board appointed new management officials and granted special promotions after its 64th Regular Meeting. In a statement, Service spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada said the board ratified the elevation of five Deputy Comptroller‑Generals and eight Assistant Comptroller‑Generals, in accordance with statutory requirements and the Federal Character principles of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023.
The newly appointed Deputy Comptroller‑Generals are Baba Imam (North‑East), Isah Umar (North‑West), Tijjani Abe (North‑West), Timi Bomodi (South‑South) and Oluyomi Adebakin (South‑West). The eight new Assistant Comptroller‑Generals—C.G. Ogbonna, I. Abba‑Aji, G.M. Haruna, E.J. Edelduok, G. Gaura, I. Isyaku, M.S. Shuaibu and M.D. Malah—represent various regions across the country.
The promotions are intended to deepen policy implementation, strengthen compliance systems and boost operational efficiency throughout Customs formations. In addition, the board approved special promotions for ten officers who demonstrated outstanding performance, professionalism and leadership. These include Comptrollers of Customs A.C. Fanyam and G.M. Shidali, several Deputy Comptrollers, Assistant Comptrollers and a Deputy Superintendent of Customs. The special‑promotion category recognizes those whose work has significantly enhanced Customs operations, revenue generation and national security.
These appointments and promotions reflect the board’s commitment to strengthening leadership succession, boosting staff morale and ensuring the Service remains equipped to manage evolving trade, security and administrative challenges. Following the recent exit of several senior officers, the new leadership is expected to bring fresh perspectives to the Service. The board’s decisions aim to improve policy implementation, regulatory compliance and operational efficiency, positioning the Nigeria Customs Service to continue playing a critical role in facilitating trade, generating revenue and safeguarding national security.
