Renowned Islamic Scholar Sheikh Dahiru Usman-Bauchi Passes Away at 98
Sheikh Dahiru Usman-Bauchi, a highly respected Islamic scholar, has died at the age of 98. According to family member Ahmed Mohammed, he passed away in the early hours of Thursday at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi.
On Wednesday night, the revered scholar had received visitors before being taken to the hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his condition. The family has announced that the funeral prayer will be held on Friday, November 28, in Bauchi, in accordance with Islamic traditions.
Sheikh Usman-Bauchi was a distinguished recipient of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) and was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most influential Islamic scholars. Born in 1927 in Gombe, he dedicated his life to promoting Islamic education, peaceful coexistence, and unity in the country. As the supreme leader of the Tijjaniya in Nigeria, a prominent Islamic Sufi group, his teachings emphasized moral discipline, tolerance, and adherence to Islamic principles, earning him a large following and deep respect both within and outside Nigeria.
Throughout his life, Sheikh Usman-Bauchi played a significant role in community development, mentoring young scholars, and strengthening religious understanding. His commitment to Islamic propagation and education has left a lasting impact on the community. He is survived by 61 children, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The passing of Sheikh Usman-Bauchi marks the loss of a prominent figure in Nigeria’s Islamic community. His contributions to promoting peace, unity, and Islamic education will be remembered and honored. The funeral prayer, scheduled for Friday, will provide an opportunity for the community to come together and pay their respects to the late scholar.
