Former Edo State governor Oserheimen Osunbor and former governorship aspirant Kenneth Imasuagbon voiced alarm over Nigeria’s escalating insecurity, hunger and poverty during the inauguration of African Democratic Congress (ADC) offices in the five local government areas of Edo Central Senatorial District. Osunbor hailed the office openings as a historic moment for the party, describing the ADC as a coalition of political groups united by a commitment to Nigerians’ welfare and security. He criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress for allegedly failing to safeguard citizens, citing its neglect of the constitutional duty to protect people under Section 14(2)(b). The former governor noted that insecurity now pervades many parts of the country, preventing people from tending their farms, and pointed out that Boko Haram’s aim of closing schools has been realized, with numerous schools in the north currently shut.

Imasuagbon, who donated the new secretariats, condemned the worsening hardship across the nation, asserting that even during the military era conditions were not as severe. He blamed the APC‑led administration for the prevailing insecurity and hunger, especially in Edo Central, where marauders and bandits have made farming impossible. Addressing President Bola Tinubu directly, Imasuagbon asked whether this is the country the president wishes to leave to future generations, urging Nigerians to rise, defend their fatherland and ensure the APC is voted out in 2027. Edo State ADC Chairman Kennedy Odion echoed these concerns, insisting that Nigerians must act to reclaim the nation in 2027.

The ceremony was attended by several party stalwarts who reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections. A senatorial meeting hosted by Imasuagbon also took place, during which free bags of rice were distributed to members in preparation for the yuletide season—a gesture seen as goodwill and a demonstration of the party’s dedication to members’ welfare. The ADC has been gaining momentum in recent months; Imasuagbon, known as the “Rice Man,” joined the party on July 23 after previously contesting governorship bids under different parties. He affirmed his commitment to working with parties that genuinely pursue change in Nigeria and Edo State, and the party’s growth and activities are being closely watched as the country prepares for the 2027 elections.
