'Avoid flamboyant lifestyles' - NYSC DG to corps members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has urged its members to practice prudent financial management and avoid extravagant lifestyles. Director‑General Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu delivered this advice during his visit to the 2025 Batch “C” Corps Members deployed to Edo State at the Orientation Camp in Okada. He stressed the importance of living within one’s means and remaining security‑conscious at all times. General Nafiu also reaffirmed the NYSC Management’s commitment to the security and welfare of all Corps Members, while urging them to promote national unity and uphold the scheme’s core values. He encouraged the members to forge friendships across cultural divides and to demonstrate virtues such as loyalty, commitment, discipline, and hard work.

NYSC Edo State Coordinator Mrs. Ben‑Ushie Frances welcomed the Director‑General and reported that 1,634 Corps Members were registered in the new batch. She described them as resourceful and diligent, noting their active participation in the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) training and other camp activities. Mrs. Frances highlighted the strong synergy among camp officials working toward a successful orientation programme.

The visit underscored the NYSC’s focus on equipping Corps Members with essential life skills and values. The scheme aims to promote national unity and development by deploying young graduates to various parts of the country. By emphasizing prudent financial management and security awareness, the NYSC seeks to ensure that its members are well‑equipped to navigate the challenges of their service year and beyond. As the Corps Members begin their service year, they are expected to apply the values and skills acquired during orientation. The NYSC’s commitment to their security and welfare is crucial for enabling them to make a positive impact in their host communities. With a strong foundation in place, the Corps Members are poised to contribute meaningfully to national development and growth.
