Gov Adeleke not welcome in Osun APC — Party Chieftain, Timothy Owoeye

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) just hours before the party’s governorship primary election. In a letter dated 4 November 2025, which was made public on Monday, Adeleke cited the ongoing crisis within the party’s national leadership as the reason for his decision. He stated that, because of this crisis, he was resigning his PDP membership with immediate effect, and he thanked the party for the opportunities it had given him, including his elections as a Senator for Osun West and as Governor of Osun State under the PDP banner.

PDP Chairman in Osun State, Sunday Bisi, confirmed on Monday that the primary election, originally scheduled for Tuesday, would not proceed as planned due to the factional crisis within the party. Bisi also revealed that Governor Adeleke no longer wished to contest the party’s nomination, again citing the internal crisis as his motive.

The resignation comes at a critical moment for the PDP, which has been grappling with internal conflicts and striving to present a united front ahead of upcoming elections. The party’s national leadership continues to work on resolving these disputes, but the situation remains unresolved.

Governor Adeleke’s departure and the postponement of the primary are likely to have significant implications for the PDP’s fortunes in Osun State. As the political landscape evolves, the consequences of his resignation and the party’s internal turmoil will be closely watched, and the next steps taken by the PDP and its members will be crucial in shaping the outcomes of future elections in Osun State and beyond.
