Bauchi: PDP clinches Shira council seat as APC boycotts by-election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has begun its governorship primary election in Osogbo, despite earlier uncertainty about the exercise. Delegates arrived at the Adolak Hall venue under tight security to prevent any potential violence. State PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi had previously announced a postponement of the primary because of a crisis within the party’s national leadership, but National Organising Secretary Theophilus Shan countered that decision, confirming that the election would proceed as scheduled.

The venue is reportedly filled with delegates, and the party’s electoral committee, led by Humphery Abba, is present. Committee members include Barr. Marc Jacob, Chief Sanya Atofarati, Mrs. Scholastical Kenebi, Chief Anene Azubuike, Mrs. Splendour Josephine, and Dr. Sunday Solarin, who serves as secretary. Officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are also on site to monitor the exercise, ensuring its credibility and transparency. Their presence underscores the significance of this primary within Nigeria’s broader electoral process.

The PDP’s governorship primary in Osun State is a crucial step toward the general elections, reflecting ongoing political dynamics in the country. As parties navigate internal challenges and external scrutiny, the successful conduct of such primaries is essential for the democratic process. With the election underway, attention now turns to the outcome and its impact on the party’s prospects in the forthcoming governorship race. The results will not only determine the PDP’s candidate but also shape the political landscape of Osun State, while adherence to democratic principles and the rule of law will be closely watched by stakeholders and the public alike.
