Petrol price drops 11.18 per cent to N1052.31 in October 2025

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has reported a decline in the average retail price of petrol in Nigeria. According to the NBS Petrol Price Watch for October 2025, the price dropped from N1,184.83 in October 2024 to N1,052.31 in October 2025, representing an 11.18 percent decrease. However, compared to the previous month, the average retail price increased by 8.42 percent from N970.59 in September.

The report also analyzed the prices across different states, with Kogi, Sokoto, and Borno recording the highest average retail prices at N1,110.00, N1,105.93, and N1,101.63, respectively. In contrast, Oyo, Nasarawa, and Abia had the lowest average retail prices at N1,001.79, N1,009.38, and N1,012.50, respectively.

A zonal analysis showed that the North-East region had the highest average retail price at N1,072.74 per liter, while the South-West region recorded the lowest price at N1,032.81 per liter. The NBS also released its Diesel Price Watch Report for October 2025, which indicated an average retail price of N1,398.57 per liter. This represents a 2.96 percent decrease from the N1,441.28 per liter recorded in October 2024.

On a month-on-month basis, the diesel price increased by 9.45 percent from N1,277.81 per liter in September 2025. The report noted that Enugu, Niger, and Jigawa had the highest average prices per liter of diesel at N1,468.29, N1,465.69, and N1,437.40, respectively. In contrast, Katsina, Edo, and Kebbi recorded the lowest prices at N1,301.24, N1,307.84, and N1,308.94 per liter, respectively.

The zonal analysis for diesel prices showed that the South-East region had the highest price at N1,415.85 per liter, while the South-South region recorded the lowest price at N1,387.18 per liter. These findings provide insight into the current trends in fuel prices across Nigeria, highlighting regional variations and changes over time. The data is essential for policymakers, businesses, and individuals to make informed decisions about energy consumption and resource allocation.
