Tinubu launches Armed Forces Remembrance Day emblem fund

President Bola Tinubu launched the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day emblem appeal fund on Tuesday, with donations totaling N320 million. The president led the contributions with a donation of N200 million, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to honoring fallen heroes and supporting serving troops.

The ceremony, held at the State House in Abuja, saw Senate President Godswill Akpabio donate N100 million, while the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, pledged N20 million. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day, marked annually on January 15, is a solemn occasion to honor those who have paid the ultimate price for national unity and peace.

President Tinubu paid tribute to serving troops tackling terrorism, insurgency, banditry, and other security threats, describing their commitment as a source of national pride. He noted that improved collaboration among security agencies has yielded significant gains, including the surrender of insurgents, neutralization of terrorist leaders, and the rescue of captives.

The president disclosed that the Ministry of Defence is developing a program to deploy retired military personnel to reclaim ungoverned spaces nationwide. A new “Thank a Soldier” digital platform with a QR code will enable Nigerians to send messages of appreciation to the troops. Tinubu urged citizens to wear the 2026 emblem with pride, symbolizing sacrifice and national gratitude, and to reject divisive rhetoric and safeguard the nation’s diversity.

As the president and Commander-in-Chief, Tinubu remains committed to equipping and motivating the military, stating that security is a central pillar of the Renewed Hope Agenda. The event marked the start of nationwide fundraising and awareness activities ahead of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day on January 15, 2026. The ceremony was attended by top government officials, including Vice-President Kashim Shettima and service chiefs.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Mrs. Grace Henry, decorated dignitaries and appealed for continued support for the armed forces. The donations and launch of the emblem appeal fund demonstrate the government’s commitment to supporting the military and honoring the sacrifices of fallen heroes. As the nation prepares to commemorate the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, citizens are encouraged to show their appreciation for the troops and their families.
