Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has presented a proposed budget of N861.3 billion for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly. Tagged the “Budget of Stability and Growth,” the plan allocates 83 % of the total—N714 billion—to capital expenditure, while N147.2 billion (17 %) is earmarked for recurrent spending.
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, the capital‑heavy budget reflects the administration’s commitment to rebuilding infrastructure, strengthening security, revitalising agriculture and expanding opportunities for youths. Sectoral allocations include education (N65 billion), health (N87 billion), agriculture (N86 billion), public order and safety (N45 billion), environmental protection (N22 billion) and social protection (N17 billion).
Governor Lawal said his administration has worked to restore public trust and reposition key sectors, and that the 2026 budget represents the next chapter in that journey. The proposal aligns with the government’s Six‑Point Rescue Agenda, which focuses on strengthening security, modernising agriculture, upgrading healthcare, expanding access to quality education, accelerating infrastructure renewal, and empowering women, youths and vulnerable groups.
Lawal justified the recurrent‑expenditure benchmark, noting that the state remains within global standards for prudent public‑finance management. He emphasized that the ambitious capital plan requires political will and continued cooperation from the State Assembly. Urging lawmakers to give the proposal careful consideration and timely approval, he described it as “a contract with the people and a declaration that Zamfara State will rise stronger, more united and more determined than ever before.”
The proposed budget is expected to play a crucial role in the state’s development, focusing on transformation and renewed growth. The State House of Assembly will now review the proposal and decide on its approval.
