Osun 2026: PDP postpones governorship primary amid crisis

The Zamfara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed that two members of the State House of Assembly have defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC). Hon. Sulaiman Hassan Bosko, representing Mafara I Constituency, and Hon. Nura Dahiru, representing Birnin Magaji Constituency, have joined the PDP, according to a statement from the party’s publicity secretary, Halliru Andi.

The PDP says the lawmakers’ defection reflects the internal challenges and leadership issues currently affecting the APC in Zamfara. They were attracted to the PDP because of its perceived stability, progressive ideals, and effective leadership. The party also highlighted Governor Dauda Lawal’s leadership style—particularly his efforts to improve security, infrastructure, transparency, and overall governance in the state—as a motivating factor.

Welcoming the two legislators, the PDP noted that their decision strengthens the party and boosts public confidence in its ability to deliver good governance. The party assured the new members of full integration and cooperation, emphasizing a commitment to work together for the betterment of Zamfara State.

The defection is seen as a significant development in the state’s political landscape, with potential implications for the balance of power in the State House of Assembly. It represents a notable setback for the APC, which has been grappling with internal divisions and challenges. The move may signal a shift in the political tide, positioning the PDP to capitalize on the APC’s weaknesses.

As the political environment continues to evolve, the PDP’s ability to consolidate its gains and maintain momentum will be crucial for future elections in Zamfara. The development underscores the dynamic nature of Nigerian politics, where alliances and affiliations can change rapidly. With the PDP and APC vying for dominance, the coming months are likely to be marked by intense political activity and maneuvering.
