Retired Gen. Christopher Musa, newly appointed Minister of Defence, assumed his duties at the Ministry of Defence in Abuja on Friday. His appointment, confirmed by the Senate on Thursday, followed President Bola Tinubu’s nomination on Tuesday and came after the resignation of former minister Muhammed Badaru.
Gen. Musa’s selection has been well‑received across various sectors, with many praising his record as Chief of Defence Staff from 2023 to 2025. His tenure was noted for firm, innovative decision‑making, qualities that are expected to enhance defence operations in his new role.
Upon arrival at approximately 11:10 a.m., the new minister inspected the quarter guard in accordance with military tradition and exchanged greetings with service chiefs and senior officials. He then entered a closed‑door meeting with the service chiefs and ministry directors to discuss key issues and strategies.
As the former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Musa brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the country’s defence landscape. His leadership is anticipated to shape defence policies and strategies, building on his predecessor’s achievements while addressing the challenges facing the sector. The Senate’s confirmation marks an important step in the nation’s defence leadership transition, and Gen. Musa is well‑positioned to make a positive impact on Nigeria’s overall defence and security.
