Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Noimot Salako‑Oyedele, and Senator Shuaibu Afolabi Salisu highlighted the potential of associations, unions and social clubs to contribute to national growth by taking part in the leadership recruitment process. Their call to action came during the investiture of the new executive of the Abeokuta Sports Club, where Alhaji Taoheed Awodele was installed as President.
Salako‑Oyedele urged the club’s new leadership to focus on impact, progress, harmony and the exploration of new possibilities. She described the Abeokuta Sports Club as a hub where intellectuals and community members gather to exchange ideas, nurture camaraderie and shape the social and civic landscape of Abeokuta. According to her, the club is founded on mutual respect, shared interests and a tradition of excellence.
Senator Salisu echoed this sentiment, urging the club and similar associations to engage in the leadership recruitment process and to clarify what is beneficial in both the short and long term. He emphasized that these organizations serve as repositories of knowledge, assisting policymakers and providing input that shapes policy and clarifies issues. During the ceremony, Salisu was inducted as Vice Patron of the club alongside other notable individuals.
President Awodele pledged to lead the club with integrity, transparency and passion over the next two years. He outlined plans to upgrade the club’s infrastructure, including the construction of modern swimming pools, the completion of a tennis house, and the reconstruction of the 5‑a‑side soccer pitch and its gallery.
