U.S. President Donald Trump said he was “a little bit disappointed” that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has not yet read his latest peace‑proposal for Russia and Ukraine. Speaking to reporters in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, Trump noted that the proposal had been submitted only a few hours earlier and that Russia was “fine” with it, while Zelensky’s reaction remained uncertain. “I’m not sure that Zelensky is fine with it. His people love it, but he isn’t ready,” Trump added, without providing details of the plan.
The comment follows Zelensky’s conversation on Saturday with U.S. negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, during which the parties reportedly clashed over whether Ukraine should cede any territory to Russia. In a video address on Sunday, Zelensky stressed that Ukraine deserves a “dignified peace” and said he would soon consult European allies about the way forward.
The conflict, which began with Russia’s demand that Ukraine recognize its new borders—including the annexation of Crimea and the two self‑declared Donbass republics—remains unresolved. Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that Russian forces will liberate the entire Donbass region by force if Ukrainian soldiers do not evacuate, while Zelensky has ruled out abandoning any territory, insisting that Ukraine will not compromise its sovereignty.
The United States has been trying to mediate a settlement. Trump has previously suggested that Ukraine might need to withdraw troops from the Donbass in line with Russia’s cease‑fire terms, but Zelensky has held firm. The international community is watching closely, as the outcome of the war carries significant implications for regional and global stability. Whether a peaceful resolution can be achieved, and what the consequences might be if the fighting escalates, remains uncertain.
