The Labour Party in Abia State has accused factional National Chairman Julius Abure and his supporters of violating a Supreme Court ruling issued in April 2025. Emmanuel Otti, chairman of the Nenadi Usman‑led faction, declared the recent congresses organized by the Abure faction invalid and contrary to the law. Speaking to journalists at the party’s state office in Umuahia, Otti said he had obtained an injunction from the Abia State High Court to halt the party’s congresses nationwide, but lamented that the Abure faction ignored the order. He warned that defying the law could have consequences, emphasizing that the Supreme Court judgment is a binding ruling that must be respected.
Otti also addressed concerns about the welfare of party members in Abia State, assuring that Governor Alex Otti has not abandoned them. He claimed that members who helped secure the governor’s victory are well represented in the administration and that a recent sensitisation tour across several local government areas confirmed widespread satisfaction with the governor’s performance. Citing the governor’s “unprecedented performance,” Otti declared that Governor Otti and the Labour Party will win elections throughout Abia State in 2027.
The party’s internal conflict and allegations of disobedience to court orders could affect its prospects in future elections and governance in the state. The Supreme Court ruling from April 2025 remains a pivotal factor in the dispute, guiding the party’s actions and decisions. Any further violations may trigger additional conflicts and legal challenges, making the resolution of internal disputes and compliance with court orders crucial to the Labour Party’s success as it prepares for the 2027 elections.
