CKay's 'Love Nwantiti' becomes first solo Nigerian song to join Spotify 1 Billion Club

Ckay has reached a historic milestone in the music industry, becoming the first Nigerian artist to have a solo song surpass 1 billion streams on Spotify. The achievement was secured by his 2019 hit single “Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah),” which recently crossed the 1 billion‑stream threshold on the platform. This also makes Ckay the first solo male African artist to attain this landmark.

The singer expressed his gratitude on social media, thanking God and everyone who contributed to this historic success. His accomplishment marks a significant moment for the Nigerian music scene, underscoring the growing global recognition of African artists.

While Ckay is the first solo Nigerian song to reach this milestone, he is not the first African artist to join Spotify’s 1 billion club. Wizkid achieved the feat in 2017 through his collaboration with Drake on “One Dance.” Other notable African successes include Rema, whose remix of “Calm Down” featuring Selena Gomez became the first African lead‑artist track to exceed 1 billion streams, and South African singer Tyla, who became the first African female artist to join the club with her viral hit “Water.”

Ckay’s accomplishment highlights the expanding popularity of African music worldwide and the increasing recognition of Nigerian talent on international platforms. It stands as a testament to his hard work and dedication, and as the music industry continues to evolve, it will be intriguing to see how African artists keep breaking barriers and reaching new heights of success.
