Sokoto ADC Reaffirms Bello Keegan as Chairman

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State has reaffirmed Alhaji Bello Keegan as its legitimate chairman, following an emergency meeting of the state executive council. The move aims to maintain unity and stability within the party, which has been plagued by internal leadership disputes.

The meeting, held on December 10, 2025, resulted in the suspension of three senior party officers: State Secretary Yusuf Alkali, Assistant State Financial Secretary Abba Galadima, and State Publicity Secretary Murtala Ali. The suspensions were based on allegations of anti-party activities, breach of trust, and actions that could undermine the party’s integrity.

A statement issued after the meeting, signed by 25 out of 33 members of the state executive council, emphasized the need to safeguard the party’s stability and progress. The statement, endorsed by Deputy State Chairman Bello Illela, reiterated the committee’s commitment to internal democracy and core values.

The executive committee also warned Umar Mohammed to stop claiming to be the chairman of the ADC in Sokoto, describing his actions as “fraudulent, illegal, and intended to mislead the public.” The warning comes amidst a recent internal leadership dispute, with rival factions vying for control of the party.

The dispute is believed to have originated from parallel meetings, conflicting directives, and concerns about attempts to create a rival leadership structure. The state executive’s emergency meeting aimed to clarify the leadership question, restore order, and prevent further fragmentation.

The reaffirmation of Keegan’s chairmanship reflects the committee’s efforts to strengthen internal democracy and protect the party’s values. The move is seen as a step towards resolving the internal conflicts and maintaining the party’s stability in Sokoto State. As the ADC navigates this challenging period, the committee’s actions are expected to have significant implications for the party’s future direction and cohesion.
