The governorship candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in Ogun State, Adeyemi Harrison, has clarified that his party is not allied with any other party for the March 11 governorship election. This statement comes after a national daily reported that the AAC was planning to merge with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. The report, cited by our correspondent, claimed that the PDP had formed an alliance with nine other political parties—Accord Party, Action Alliance, Action Democratic Party, All Peoples Party, Allied People’s Movement, Because Of Our Tomorrow Party, Young Progressive Party, and New Nigeria People’s Party—purportedly to oppose Governor Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress in the upcoming elections.
Adeyemi, speaking in Abeokuta, the state capital, on Saturday, described the report as false. He explained that any decision to merge with another party would require the agreement of the state chairman, the governorship candidate, and the national leader. “Our party is taking steps to take the PDP to court for the falsehood they have spread,” he said. “It is a lie; we are not in any merger with any party in Ogun State. We have no reason to form an alliance with them, as we have a majority in this state.”
He asserted that the AAC will win the election and become the ruling party in Ogun, adding, “I will be the governor, and there is no reason for me to affiliate or join my people with them.” Adeyemi noted that thousands of church leaders present at the event are endorsing the AAC for the upcoming governorship election, signaling public confidence in his competence and fitness for office. “A leader should present himself as a servant to the electorate,” he said, emphasizing that he will deliver what the people want, not what he wants.
Adeyemi outlined his promises to voters: free university education, local government autonomy, and the restructuring of the agricultural and health sectors. He concluded by stating that these essential measures will be implemented if he is elected.
Other candidates contesting the governorship include Ladi Adebutu of the PDP and incumbent Governor Dapo Abiodun, who is seeking re‑election.
