The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Anambra State, Mr. John Nwosu, said he supports any political movement that seeks to develop the South‑East region. Speaking to journalists at the ADC secretariat in Awka, Nwosu affirmed his willingness to collaborate with other parties to achieve this goal.
Addressing concerns about former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi’s affiliation, Nwosu clarified that Obi remains a member of the ADC coalition, which includes several parties such as the Labour Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC). He explained that positions within the coalition have been shared among its members, with the Labour Party holding a key slot currently occupied by an Obi nominee. Hon. Chinedu Idigo, appointed by Obi, serves as the coalition’s National Organizing Secretary, underscoring the Labour Party’s integral role.
When asked whether Obi might take a running‑mate position, Nwosu declined to give advice, noting that such political decisions are personal. He stressed, however, the need for the South‑East to unite and devise strategies to improve its economic situation. Nwosu pointed out that the region’s economy is valued at less than $100 billion, while Lagos State alone accounts for over $262 billion.
His comments highlight the importance of political collaboration and economic development for the South‑East. By supporting a unified political movement, Nwosu believes the region can better address its economic challenges and enhance its influence in national politics.
