President Bola Ahmed Tinubu pledged to sustain the legacy of former President Muhammadu Buhari, stressing the importance of discipline, leadership and integrity. Speaking at the unveiling of the book *From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari* in Abuja, Tinubu said the best way to honor Buhari is to keep his legacies alive. The 600‑page biography, written by Dr Charles Omole, chronicles Buhari’s life and offers Nigerians an opportunity to learn from his experiences and leadership.
Tinubu described Buhari as a brother, friend and political partner, recalling their collaborative efforts in building a strong coalition that transformed Nigeria’s political landscape. He reflected on the historic 2015 victory, which unseated an incumbent president and propelled their party to become the fastest‑growing political party in Africa. Emphasising the need to work across differences, Tinubu said nation‑building requires passionate competition and responsible governance.
The president praised Dr Omole’s work, noting that the biography has been commended by several former service chiefs and security heads who served under Buhari. They testified to Buhari’s discipline and integrity, with NDLEA Chairman Brigadier General Buba Marwa describing him as “a man of honour, a man of character, a man of integrity and a man of principle.”
The event was attended by President Adama Barrow of The Gambia, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, several state governors and other dignitaries. Hadiza Nana Buhari, representing the Buhari family, thanked President Tinubu for his support and urged Nigerians to learn from her father’s legacy of patience and integrity. The occasion highlighted the significance of Buhari’s legacy and the need to sustain his achievements. As Tinubu embarks on his own administration, his commitment to upholding Buhari’s principles is seen as a crucial step in building on the foundations laid by his predecessor, reminding Nigerians of the importance of leadership, discipline and integrity in shaping the country’s future.
