Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has pledged to eliminate delays in paying benefits to retired public servants, ensuring they receive their entitlements promptly. He made this commitment while disbursing severance gratuities, accommodation, and leave allowances to 1,371 former local‑government councillors who served between 2021 and 2024. The ceremony, held at the Government House in Kano, marked the payment of the final batch of outstanding entitlements, amounting to N8.26 billion.
According to the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Yusuf emphasized that public servants who have dedicated years of service to the state should not face undue delays in receiving their benefits. He declared that his administration will no longer tolerate situations where workers are kept waiting endlessly for their legally entitled payments. This disbursement is part of the government’s effort to clear inherited liabilities and restore confidence in the public service.
Governor Yusuf also introduced reforms aimed at preventing the accumulation of arrears and ensuring timely payment of benefits. He noted that structures are being put in place to guarantee transparency, accountability, and proper management of workers’ entitlements. Reiterating his commitment to people‑centred governance, he stressed that Kano belongs to everyone and must be managed with fairness and responsibility.
By prioritizing the payment of benefits to retired public servants, the government aims to demonstrate its dedication to employee welfare. The N8.26 billion payment represents a significant step toward clearing the state’s liabilities and improving the lives of retired workers. As reforms continue and transparency remains a priority, public‑service confidence and efficiency are expected to increase, moving Kano State toward more accountable and responsible resource management for the benefit of its citizens.
