Youths from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State have voiced their opposition to the re‑election bid of Jimi Odimayo, the incumbent lawmaker for the Okitipupa‑Irele Federal Constituency. In a statement released on Thursday, the group, led by Adewale Adefua, called for a change in representation at the National Assembly and announced their support for Bidemi Obayangban, the Special Assistant to the Governor of Ondo State on Forestry, as a potential replacement.

Adefua highlighted Obayangban’s positive contributions to their community as a key reason for their backing. Youth leader Ajibade Omogunoye also endorsed Obayangban, praising his humility and passion for the people. The youths’ decision to reject Odimayo’s re‑election bid comes as Ondo State’s political landscape continues to evolve. The APC, the ruling party, holds a significant presence in the state, and the Okitipupa‑Irele seat is a crucial constituency.

While Odimayo is seeking another term, the youths’ rejection may signal a shift in support among his constituents. Obayangban’s role as a special assistant to the governor has likely given him valuable experience and insight into community needs, factors that appear to have influenced the youths’ endorsement. Their support suggests a desire for fresh perspective and new leadership to represent their interests at the National Assembly.

As the electoral process unfolds, it remains to be seen how Odimayo’s campaign will be affected by the youths’ opposition. The APC will need to address the concerns and aspirations of its constituents, especially the younger voters, as it navigates the complexities of the upcoming election. The outcome will have significant implications for the representation of the Okitipupa‑Irele Federal Constituency and the broader political dynamics in Ondo State.
