Accord Party Eyes Osun, Ekiti Governorship Elections

The Accord Party has reaffirmed its focus on upcoming elections, including the Osun State and Ekiti State governorship polls, as well as the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections. The party is also gearing up for the 2027 general elections. According to the party’s National Chairman, Barr. Maxwell Mgbudem, Accord remains the most stable and united political party in Nigeria, with no factions.

Mgbudem made these statements at a press conference in Abuja, where he addressed the party’s position on recent claims by its former presidential candidate, Prof. Christopher Imumolen. Imumolen had claimed to be the authentic National Chairman of the party, despite being expelled in November 2024 for alleged gross misconduct and anti-party activities.

The party chairman dismissed Imumolen’s claims as an attempt to cause confusion and disaffection, stating that such tactics are alien to Accord’s values as a credible platform in the democratic process. Mgbudem emphasized that the party’s growth and popularity, particularly since the joining of Senator Ademola Adeleke and his supporters, have made it a key player in the country’s democratic landscape.

Adeleke’s influence, according to Mgbudem, has attracted thousands of Nigerians to the party, placing it at the forefront of the democratic process. The party chairman described Imumolen’s attempts to claim leadership as a “mirage” and an “insult to the sensibilities of the good people of Osun State.”

Mgbudem reiterated that the party will not engage with expelled members or “political jobbers” seeking relevance. Instead, Accord will focus on its electoral goals, including winning the forthcoming elections in Osun, Ekiti, and the FCT Area Council polls, as well as preparing for the 2027 general election.

The party’s stance is seen as a move to reassure its supporters and the public of its stability and commitment to the democratic process. With the elections approaching, Accord’s ability to maintain its unity and focus will be crucial in its bid to make a significant impact in Nigerian politics.
