APC lacks spirit of democratic sportsmanship - PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sent festive greetings to Nigerians and its members for Christmas and the New Year. In a statement released in Abuja, National Publicity Secretary of the National Caretaker Working Committee, Jungudo Mohammed, urged citizens to use the holiday season to pray for the country’s continued growth, development, and the party’s stability.

Led by Minister Nyesom Wike and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the PDP called on its loyal members to reflect on the challenges facing the party and to adopt positive New Year resolutions that will promote unity, stability and progress. The party also encouraged continued support for the Abdulrahman Mohammed‑led Caretaker Committee, which is working to restore order, cohesion and credibility within the PDP.

The statement addressed the controversy surrounding the Oyo Convention, which produced Kabiru Turaki as the party’s National Chairman. After the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) rejected the convention, the PDP advised members to examine the facts carefully and avoid falsehoods and propaganda. The party reaffirmed its respect for constitutional provisions, existing court judgments and the rule of law.

In response to recent comments by Governor Seyi Makinde, the PDP described his media interview as “uninspiring and replete with distorted facts, confessional statements, envy, and an afterthought.” The party cautioned that Makinde’s remarks should be treated with utmost care, noting they reveal a lack of understanding of the legal and constitutional issues confronting the PDP.

As the party navigates its current challenges, its leadership has urged members to remain committed to the principles of unity and stability. With the festive season offering a time for reflection and renewal, the PDP views the new year as an opportunity to rebuild and strengthen its position. Its efforts to address internal issues and restore credibility will be closely watched in the coming months as Nigeria’s political landscape continues to evolve.
