Three people killed in Moscow car explosion, Russian authorities say

A deadly explosion in Moscow has claimed the lives of two police officers and a third individual, according to Russian investigators. The blast occurred on Wednesday, just two days after a car bomb killed a top Russian general in the same area of the capital. The two traffic police officers were approaching a suspicious person when the explosion detonated, a spokesperson for Russia’s Investigative Committee said. Local residents reported hearing a loud bang and seeing the street quickly blocked by police.

Investigators and forensic experts have examined the scene to determine the cause of the explosion. The incident bears a resemblance to the killing of Lt. Gen. Fanil Sarvarov, who was fatally injured by a bomb detonated beneath his car in the same area on Monday. Sarvarov, head of the Operational Training Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces’ General Staff, was the third senior military officer killed in such an attack in just over a year. Russian investigators have suggested that Ukraine may have been behind the attack on Sarvarov, although no official confirmation has been made.

The series of targeted killings has raised concerns about the security situation in Moscow and the potential for further violence. The latest explosion has prompted a significant police presence in the area, with authorities working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. As the investigation continues, officials are likely to examine possible links between the two attacks and assess the threat to public safety.

The killings of high‑ranking military officials and police officers have significant implications for Russia’s security landscape. With tensions remaining high, authorities will be under pressure to prevent further attacks and bring those responsible to justice. As the situation unfolds, international attention will focus on the Russian capital, where the risk of violence appears to be escalating.
