Fayose: Wike Vindicated Amid PDP Defections

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has weighed in on the recent wave of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that the developments have vindicated former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and the G-5 governors. In a television interview, Fayose noted that the governors who defected did so in their own interest, seeking to secure their future and that of their people.

Fayose revealed that he had previously warned PDP leaders about potential challenges within the party. He recalled speaking out when the party’s issues began to surface, predicting that the PDP would face significant challenges. The former governor stated that Wike was open about his grievances, particularly regarding unfulfilled agreements with the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

According to Fayose, Wike and the G-5 governors, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, had fought for their cause and engaged with the party’s leadership on several occasions. Initially, many Nigerians viewed the G-5 governors as traitors, but the recent mass defections have altered perceptions. The departure of key figures, including the presidential and vice-presidential candidates, governors, and senators, has lent credence to Wike’s earlier concerns.

Fayose observed that the current situation has vindicated Wike, who had foreseen the crisis earlier than others. The former governor’s comments come as the PDP continues to grapple with internal divisions and defections. The party’s leadership is facing significant challenges in maintaining unity and cohesion, particularly in the wake of the recent departures.

The developments have significant implications for the PDP’s future and its ability to remain a viable opposition force. As the party navigates these challenges, it remains to be seen how it will respond to the concerns raised by Wike and the G-5 governors. The situation highlights the need for the PDP to address its internal issues and work towards rebuilding trust and unity among its members.
