APC leader Mohammed Bomoi resigns, cites discontent with party leadership

Ambassador Mohammed Bomoi, a prominent member of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), announced his resignation from the party in a statement dated December 25, 2025. He cited dissatisfaction with the party’s national leadership and alleged marginalisation of the North‑East region as the primary reasons for his decision.

Bomoi, who previously served as Secretary of the APC Special Purpose Committee for the North‑East Zone, said his resignation follows the party’s failure to adequately recognise and include him and other loyal members who mobilised support across several states, including Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa, Taraba, and Yobe. He accused the national leadership of adopting an aloof, laissez‑faire attitude toward the region, which has eroded his confidence in the party and its leaders.

The former APC member also alleged that actions under the current administration treat the North as a “caste,” deliberately undermining the social contract between the North and the central government. Bomoi’s resignation is a significant development in Nigerian politics, especially given his previous role as an active member of the Tinubu Support Group and his status as a key figure in the APC’s North‑East Zone.

His departure may have implications for the party’s support base in the North‑East, a critical component of Nigeria’s political landscape. The APC’s ability to maintain support in this region will be closely watched in the coming months. Bomoi’s resignation highlights ongoing concerns about regional marginalisation and the need for greater inclusion in Nigeria’s political process.

The APC’s national leadership has not yet responded to Bomoi’s allegations, but the party is likely to face scrutiny over its handling of regional relations and member inclusion. As Nigeria continues to navigate its complex political environment, developments such as Bomoi’s resignation will be closely monitored by stakeholders and observers, potentially prompting further discussion about the APC’s commitment to addressing regional disparities and promoting inclusive governance.
