A significant development has unfolded in Kano State, Nigeria, as 31 local government area chairmen have expressed their support for Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This endorsement follows a series of stakeholder meetings held across the local government areas, where the chairmen presented their perspectives on the party’s future in the state. The meetings, which took place between Sunday and Monday, culminated in the chairmen of 31 local government areas backing a potential defection from the NNPP to the APC.

However, the chairmen of Kura and Tsanyawa local government areas have opted to remain loyal to the NNPP, reaffirming their commitment to the party’s ideals alongside Senator Kwankwaso. As of the latest update, 11 local government areas have yet to publicly declare their stance on the matter. Kano State comprises a total of 44 local government areas, and the attention of the public and political observers remains focused on the positions of the remaining chairmen.

The NNPP has been a significant player in Kano State’s political landscape, with Senator Kwankwaso a prominent figure. The potential defection of the party’s leader and the governor to the APC could have considerable implications for the state’s political dynamics. If it occurs, the defection would mark a notable shift in the state’s political alignment, potentially influencing the balance of power in the region.

With 11 local government areas still undecided, the outcome remains uncertain, leaving room for further developments and negotiations. The ongoing situation continues to generate widespread interest across the state, and it is expected to attract sustained attention from the public, media outlets, and political analysts both locally and internationally.
