ADP Courts Showunmi for 2027 Ogun Governorship Election

Less than two weeks after being courted by the Labour Party in Ogun State with a promise of the party’s governorship ticket, Otunba Segun Showunmi, Chief Promoter of the Alternative Movement, has received a similar offer from the Action Democratic Party. On Monday, leaders of the ADP, led by the party’s chairperson in Ogun State, Yeye Olufunke Olarenwaju, visited Showunmi’s residence to extend an invitation for him to join the party ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Olarenwaju described Showunmi as a credible politician and grassroots mobilizer, highlighting his potential to fly the party’s flag in the next election. She emphasized that the visit was part of efforts to recruit Showunmi, citing his worthiness for the governorship seat in Ogun State. Showunmi, a former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, expressed gratitude for the invitation but indicated that he would engage in wide-ranging consultations before making a decision.

When questioned about his potential party affiliation, Showunmi stated that he would consider the stability, acceptability, and organizational structure of the party before making a choice. He noted that his decision would be based on which party is best positioned for him to contest the next election successfully. With the 2027 governorship election approaching, Showunmi’s decision is likely to have significant implications for the political landscape in Ogun State.

As a seasoned politician, Showunmi’s potential candidacy has generated interest among various parties. His experience in grassroots mobilization and his credibility as a politician make him an attractive candidate for parties seeking to strengthen their presence in the state. The ADP’s offer to Showunmi reflects the party’s efforts to build a strong candidacy for the upcoming election. As the political landscape continues to evolve, Showunmi’s next move will be closely watched by stakeholders and observers alike.
