Tinubu’s commitment to Ogoni development evident in key projects - Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its development initiatives in Ogoniland, Rivers State, during a Christmas visit to the people of Khana Local Government Area. Wike’s trip was intended to thank the community for its continued support over the years and to highlight recent federal projects in the region.

He pointed to the establishment of the Federal University of Environment and Technology (FUET) at Koroma, Saakpenwa, in Tai Local Government Area as a major achievement. The university’s location fulfills a long‑standing demand of the Ogoni people, who have advocated for its creation for many years. Wike also noted the construction of a road linking Ogoniland to Bonny Island, a project expected to improve connectivity and create new economic opportunities.

In addition, the minister referenced President Tinubu’s decision to honour and pardon the Ogoni “four martyrs,” describing it as a gesture of reconciliation. He further emphasized that the Ogoni have benefited from several federal appointments under the current administration and assured the community that more appointments will follow, demonstrating the government’s commitment to inclusivity and representation.

These development projects and initiatives are presented as evidence of the president’s dedication to addressing the region’s needs. Historically, the Ogoni people have faced environmental and socio‑economic challenges; the government’s efforts aim to mitigate these issues and improve the quality of life for residents. The minister’s visit and the ongoing projects underscore the importance of meeting the needs of marginalized communities, with expected positive impacts on the region’s economy, education, and infrastructure, ultimately contributing to the country’s overall development.
