Party chieftain reveals reasons for mass defection to APC in Abia

The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally invited Governor Abba Yusuf to defect from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and join the ruling party. The invitation was extended by state APC chairman Abdullahi Abbas on behalf of former national chairman Umar Ganduje on Tuesday. Abbas said the move aims to promote unity, reconciliation and collective progress in Kano State, stressing that the APC would welcome Governor Yusuf with open arms and combine their strengths to advance the state’s development.

The invitation follows a statement by Abdullahi Rogo, Director‑General of the Protocol Directorate of the Kano State Government House, who claimed that citizens and voters in the state agree that Governor Yusuf and Rabiu Kwankwaso should defect to the APC from the NNPP. In response, the NNPP held a press briefing on Monday, urging Governor Yusuf not to switch parties. The NNPP’s appeal reflects its effort to retain key members and preserve its political presence in the state.

The significance of the invitation lies in Kano’s political landscape. If the APC succeeds in attracting the governor and possibly other NNPP members, it could alter the state’s political dynamics and shift the balance of power between the parties. Governor Yusuf’s decision, along with that of other stakeholders, will be closely watched for its potential impact on governance and future political alignments in Kano State. The outcome will likely shape the political trajectory of the state and the relationships among its major parties.
